Circlet of the Whispering Mind
Also known as: Telepathy Helm
A close-fitted helm of pale silver-blue alloy, etched along its brow-plate with the interlocking spiral sigils of the Mystarans' Mind-Weave Doctrine, each groove filled with crushed starstone that faintly pulses in the presence of conscious thought. When worn, a breathless silence settles behind the eyes, and the voices of those the wearer focuses upon bloom like whispered secrets inside the skull.

Its most cited abilities include Telepathic Broadcast: The wearer may project thoughts as silent speech to any single creature within 120 feet whose mind they can picture clearly., Mind-Web: By concentrating for one full breath, the wearer links up to five willing creatures into a shared mental network that persists until the helm is removed., and Surface Reading: Passive impressions, strong emotions, immediate intentions, bleed from unshielded minds within 30 feet into the wearer's awareness without active effort.. History
For two decades the helm served Orendis's own network of agents, its Mind-Web threading silent strategies between Mystaran operatives embedded among the Desert Scholars of the Sun-Scarred interior and the court of the Sylvan Elves during the bitter Thornwood Negotiations. After Orendis's death at the Battle of the Ashen Crossing, ambushed by Drakonian warbands, the helm passed as a prize of war to the Drakonian warlord Skrath Ironjaw, who wore it without understanding its deeper functions and found the uninvited surface-reading slowly maddening. Skrath eventually sold it to a Halfling relic-broker in the river-market of Dunhollow, where it traded hands three more times before a Desert Scholar expedition catalogued it and locked it within the Vault of Considered Silence in the city of Aur-Saphis. It is believed to rest there still, though Mystaran intelligence has submitted no fewer than four formal, and thus far denied, requests for its return.
Powers & Abilities
- ✦ Telepathic Broadcast: The wearer may project thoughts as silent speech to any single creature within 120 feet whose mind they can picture clearly.
- ✦ Mind-Web: By concentrating for one full breath, the wearer links up to five willing creatures into a shared mental network that persists until the helm is removed.
- ✦ Surface Reading: Passive impressions, strong emotions, immediate intentions, bleed from unshielded minds within 30 feet into the wearer's awareness without active effort.
- ✦ Thought-Seal: Once per day the wearer may cloak their own mind entirely, becoming undetectable to magical scrying, telepathy, or mind-reading for up to one hour.
- ✦ Whisper Relay: A message of no more than thirty words may be sealed into the helm and released mentally to a pre-designated recipient the next time they sleep, regardless of distance.
Curse or Drawback
The helm's passive Surface Reading cannot be voluntarily suppressed: in any crowd, settlement, or battlefield the wearer is assaulted by a constant low tide of alien emotion and fragmented thought. Prolonged use beyond seven consecutive days without a full night of helm-free rest risks a condition the Mystarans call the Blurring, a gradual erosion of the boundary between the wearer's own thoughts and those absorbed from others, potentially resulting in a permanent inability to distinguish self from the minds around them.
