Crystal-Infused Healing Salves
Also known as: Healing Salves, Crystal Poultices, Arla's Salve, Ember Healing Paste
Crystal-Infused Healing Salves are a recent breakthrough in Dwarven medicinal arts, developed through the fusion of Crystal-Weaver techniques and traditional alchemical knowledge first synthesised by Arla of the Green, a half-elven herbalist adopted into Clan Emberheart. The salves are dense, mineral-rich preparations in which Living Crystal filaments — harvested at the micro-scale by Crystal-Weavers and suspended in a base of refined geothermal mineral extract and Stonecap Lichen acid — carry restorative earth-runes directly into injured tissue. When applied to a wound, the crystal filaments bridge the gap between magical theory and practical medicine: the runes accelerate natural cellular repair, reduce inflammation, and draw out toxins while the mineral base forms a protective seal over exposed tissue. They have been hailed as the most significant innovation in Dwarven medicine in a century and are in increasing demand from surface nations.

- Origin
- Developed by Arla of the Green, a half-elven herbalist who was adopted into Clan Emberheart through the Rite of Stone-Kin after spending thirty years in Baragorn studying the intersection of surface herbalism and Dwarven crystal-science. Arla's key insight was that Living Crystal filaments, when fine enough, did not need to be in direct contact with bone to transmit earth-runes — they could work through flesh, something no prior Crystal-Weaver had attempted. Crystal-Weaver Yenna refined and industrialised the technique, producing the Healing Lattice as her Masterwork and enabling mass production of the salves.
- Current Owner
- Produced by licensed healers of the Crystal-Weavers discipline and sold through the Hall of Trade in all major Holds. The Fire-Smiths Guild has applied for production rights to a military-grade variant for Iron Guard field medics. Export sales to Azaria and the Elven High Courts are managed by the Warden of Trade.
Overview
Crystal-Infused Healing Salves is a uncommon consumable in Landorya. History
Crystal-Infused Healing Salves were publicly unveiled when Crystal-Weaver Yenna presented her Healing Lattice Masterwork to the guild panel in Baragorn, an event that drew observers from the Celestial Academy and sparked immediate diplomatic interest from the Azarian Imperial Medical Corps. During a mine collapse in Ironhold shortly after the salves became available, field treatment with the preparation reduced mortality from crush injuries by an estimated two-thirds compared to historical incidents of similar scale. The Warden of Rune-Law is currently reviewing regulations governing foreign sale of the salves, as concerns have been raised that large-scale export could create dependencies that foreign powers might use as political leverage.
Powers & Abilities
- ✦ Accelerated Healing: Crystal filaments carrying Restoration-Runes stimulate natural healing at approximately three times the normal rate, closing surface wounds within hours and accelerating recovery from deep injury over days.
- ✦ Inflammation Suppression: The mineral base contains natural compounds extracted from Stonecap Lichen that, combined with a minor Cooling-Rune, significantly reduce swelling and fever in infected or magically burned tissue.
- ✦ Toxin Extraction: Earth-runes attuned to the body's mineral balance draw foreign contamination — whether mundane poison or early-stage Runic Corruption deposits — toward the surface of the wound for expulsion.
- ✦ Runic Corruption Mitigation: When applied to tissue showing early crystallisation from Runic Corruption, the salve's restorative earth-runes can partially reverse the abnormal mineral deposition if treatment begins before the condition becomes irreversible.
- ✦ Protective Seal: The Living Crystal filaments form a semi-rigid lattice over the wound site once the salve dries, protecting the healing tissue from physical impact and minor magical interference during recovery.
Curse or Drawback
Crystal-Infused Healing Salves applied to a wound site that has already been treated with conflicting magical restoration — Elven life-magic, Mystaran probability-weaving, or Drakonian flame-healing — cause a Rune-Clash reaction in which the competing healing energies cancel each other out and instead trigger an acute inflammatory response. The wound treated with incompatible healing magic becomes actively worse, and the Clash can take days to resolve without specialist runic intervention.
