Druid Warden Thornstaff
Also known as: Warden Staff, Thornwood Staff, Druid Staff
The staff carried by Eldorian Druid Wardens in both their military and spiritual functions, grown from a combination of ironbark and thornwood through a years-long process of druidic cultivation that produces an implement unique to each Warden. The stave is straight-grained ironbark for its lower two-thirds and transitions smoothly into thornwood for the upper section, where the growth has been guided into a natural spiral terminating in a crown of interlocked thorn-curves from which a living sapling of ironbark grows, its roots wrapped around the staff-head in the form of the Druid Warden heraldic emblem: the serpent coiled around a sapling. The sapling is not decorative; it is alive, drawing sustenance from the ambient magical field through the staff, and its seasonal color shifts reflect the Warden's own attunement to the ambient aura.

History
The Druid Warden Thornstaff predates the formalization of the Warden Academy, its design rooted in the practices of the earliest druidic practitioners who served the Eldorian founding community. The Green Shepherd, first Druid Warden, is depicted in the oldest Chronicler recordings carrying a staff that scholars of the druidic tradition identify as a prototype Thornstaff, and the continuous evolution of the implement across centuries of practice has produced the current form through accumulated refinement rather than single act of invention.
Powers & Abilities

- ✦ Summons barriers of thorns from nearby forest growth, erupting from soil or bark at the Warden's direction to impede or entrap hostile forces
- ✦ Commands forest creatures within the Warden's sphere of magical attention, communicating intent without words through the shared sylvan field
- ✦ Extends the Warden's Sylvan Sight: the living sapling at the staff-head functions as an extension of the Warden's own magical senses, perceiving the ambient field at a greater range
- ✦ Serves as focus for familiar bonding ceremonies: the thornstaff is held by both Warden and familiar candidate during the bonding ritual, channeling and stabilizing the connection
Curse or Drawback
The Thornstaff will not accept a bearer who wishes harm to the living forest; such a person finds the thorns of the staff-head drawing blood from their palm regardless of how carefully they grip it, and the living sapling wilts and greys. The effect is self-correcting: if the harmful intention is abandoned and a Druid Warden conducts a re-consecration ceremony, the sapling revives and the bleeding ceases.
