Gale-Whisper Cloak

Also known as: The Wind-Master's Cloak, Aeolus's Gift, The Storm-Weave

The Gale-Whisper Cloak is the first and most personal gift ever given by First Primarch Aeolus, presented to his earliest disciple at the moment that disciple demonstrated sufficient mastery of wind-scribing to be trusted with independent mission across the most dangerous storm corridors of Zephyr's Reach. The Cloak is woven from condensed wind-current material, a textile impossible to produce by any conventional means, its fibres composed of sustained air elemental energy given physical coherence through a process Aeolus developed specifically for this purpose and never fully documented elsewhere. It appears to mortal eyes as a garment of shifting silver-grey that moves in currents regardless of ambient airflow, as if the fabric is always experiencing its own private wind. Wearing it, the bearer can sustain flight without exhaustion and move through storm-force winds without resistance, and the wind-stealth property renders both the wearer's physical presence and their elemental signature undetectable in air environments.

Origin
Aeolus wove the Gale-Whisper Cloak during a single storm event of unusual intensity in the early period of the Air Kingdom, spending the entire duration of the storm in the most turbulent core of its wind-field, drawing material from the storm itself and fixing it into textile form through sustained air elemental will. The process is observable in retrospect but not reproducible; no Wind-Scribe has been able to identify what Aeolus did differently from standard air-weaving technique.

Overview

Gale-Whisper Cloak is a legendary garment in Landorya. Its known origin is Aeolus wove the Gale-Whisper Cloak during a single storm event of unusual intensity in the early period of the Air Kingdom, spending the entire duration of the storm in the most turbulent core of its wind-field, drawing material from the storm itself and fixing it into textile form through sustained air elemental will. The process is observable in retrospect but not reproducible; no Wind-Scribe has been able to identify what Aeolus did differently from standard air-weaving technique.. It is currently associated with The current senior Wind-Scribe master of Zephyr's Reach. Its most cited abilities include Sustained flight without the physical or elemental exhaustion that limits natural flight ability in Air elementals, Wind-stealth rendering the wearer undetectable by sight, sound, and elemental sensing within air environments, and Resistance to all wind and storm damage regardless of intensity. Accounts also warn of a drawback: Wind-Scribes who wear the Gale-Whisper Cloak for extended periods report a growing difficulty returning to stillness: the Cloak's perpetual internal motion com…

History

The Gale-Whisper Cloak has passed through generations of Wind-Scribe masters since Aeolus's first disciple, each bearer holding it for the period of their mastery and passing it to the most capable of their successors. No master has kept it past their own retirement from active Wind-Scribe practice, and the few who considered doing so report the Cloak itself seemed to become increasingly uncomfortable to wear during that period, as if it was expressing an opinion. The Cloak was used during the Ashfall War to enable covert Wind-Scribe reconnaissance within Fire Kingdom territory, a mission that produced the intelligence on which the Air Kingdom's ultimately successful defensive strategy was based.

Powers & Abilities

  • Sustained flight without the physical or elemental exhaustion that limits natural flight ability in Air elementals
  • Wind-stealth rendering the wearer undetectable by sight, sound, and elemental sensing within air environments
  • Resistance to all wind and storm damage regardless of intensity
  • Communication with air elemental ley-lines through the Cloak's woven current-material, enabling the wearer to sense air-domain conditions across great distances
  • Enhancement of wind-scribing precision for the wearer, enabling inscription of resonance records in conditions that would normally make such work impossible

Curse or Drawback

Wind-Scribes who wear the Gale-Whisper Cloak for extended periods report a growing difficulty returning to stillness: the Cloak's perpetual internal motion communicates itself subtly to the wearer's elemental attunement over time, until those who have worn it longest feel genuinely uncomfortable in calm air, experiencing what they describe as a restlessness that does not belong to them. The most senior Wind-Scribe masters pass the Cloak to the next bearer not simply because tradition demands it but because they recognize the Cloak's nature in themselves and understand that it is time to become still again.
