The Abyss Gate Inscription Chisel

A heavy-headed chisel forged from blackened deep-sea iron, its handle wrapped in cured rayfish leather that never softens in water. The cutting edge glows with a cold violet-silver light, the same uncanny hue found in the eyes of the oldest Islander bloodlines, when submerged beyond the reach of natural sunlight.

History

The chisel has passed between generations of Abyssal Scribes for as long as institutional memory reaches, its earliest inscriptions at the Abyss Gate shrines believed by some scholars to date to the era of the Ocean's Children. Scholars from distant Landoryan civilizations have sought to study it, but the Scribes refuse all requests, considering the tool too spiritually sensitive to leave Islander waters. It was briefly lost during a seaquake near the outer islands and recovered three generations later, still glowing, wedged into a volcanic fissure.
