Scroll of the Storm-Lance
Also known as: Lightning Scroll
A tightly wound scroll of pale Zephyrian storm-silk, its surface etched with crackling runes that pulse with trapped arcs of blue-white light even in still air. When unfurled and spoken aloud, the incantation unleashes a javelin of raw lightning that sears through flesh, stone, and steel alike with a thunderclap heard across three valleys.

History
During the Siege of the Drifting Citadel, a Zephyrian battle-mage named Sorael used one such scroll to shatter the flagship of the Drakonian admiral Kurrath the Ironclad, scattering the raiding fleet and earning the scrolls their battlefield reputation. Copies proliferated across Landorya as Zephyrian traders bartered them for passage rights through Naga waterways and Iron Mountain tunnels, though the Dwarves of the Iron Mountains quickly banned their import after a careless merchant reduced a mineshaft to cinders. Today, originals scribed in Verath's hand are jealously hoarded by the Desert Scholars of the Sunken Archive, who study the storm-silk cipher, while cheaper Gnomish facsimiles, far less stable, circulate through the markets of the Shimmering Isles.

Curse or Drawback
Casters who speak the incantation during clear, storm-free skies draw the bolt's energy from their own life-force rather than ambient aether; they suffer a violent galvanic convulsion after the spell discharges, leaving them weakened and trembling for hours. Repeated use under clear skies has been known to stop a mortal heart.
