Aether-Heart

Also known as: The Violet Heart, The Engine Stone

A pulsating crystal the size of a large fist, shaped without any tool into a form that resembles the intersection point of multiple spatial vectors, its surfaces faceted in ways that do not correspond to any crystal growth pattern occurring in nature. The Aether-Heart glows with a violet-white light that strengthens when a sentient being directs focused thought at it, converting the Thought-Weaving energy produced by mortal consciousness into tangible kinetic and thermal force. It is the primary power source for the Celestial Order's Astral Engines, the lattice of resonance devices that maintain the Order's Temporal Gateways and monitoring arrays.

Overview

Aether-Heart is a legendary power core in Landorya. Its known origin is The Aether-Heart was shaped by the Celestial Aether from a compressed node of the Infinity Loop, the spatial current that Aether used to lay out the planes of existence during the world's creation. It was given to the Celestial Order in the Age of Restoration as the engine that would allow mortals to maintain the infrastructure of the world without requiring direct Celestial intervention.. It is currently associated with Temple of the First Dawn, in the Vault of the Eternal Light, connected to the Astral Engine array. Its most cited abilities include Convert thought-energy directed at it into tangible physical force, scaling with the clarity and intensity of the directing consciousness, Power the Celestial Order's Astral Engines, maintaining the Temporal Gateway network and resonance monitoring infrastructure, and Store accumulated thought-energy and release it in controlled bursts when no active directing mind is present. Accounts also warn of a drawback: Individuals who direct thought-energy into the Aether-Heart for extended periods report increasing difficulty distinguishing their own thoughts from the accumu…

History

The Aether-Heart has powered the Temple's Temporal Gateway network since the Order's founding, with only one documented interruption: a three-day period during the fifth-century Rift Crisis when the crystal's stored energy was deliberately redirected to augment the resonance seals being applied to the secondary Entropic Rifts. During those three days, the Temple's Temporal Gateways were non-functional and the monitoring arrays operated at reduced capacity, a state the Order has treated as an extreme emergency precedent never to be repeated without Celestial-level authorisation.

Powers & Abilities

  • Convert thought-energy directed at it into tangible physical force, scaling with the clarity and intensity of the directing consciousness
  • Power the Celestial Order's Astral Engines, maintaining the Temporal Gateway network and resonance monitoring infrastructure
  • Store accumulated thought-energy and release it in controlled bursts when no active directing mind is present
  • Amplify the spatial resonance of its immediate environment, strengthening the Ætheric Net in a radius proportional to the energy currently held
  • Interface directly with Celestial Crystal artifacts, allowing it to serve as a charging source for resonance-dependent devices

Curse or Drawback

Individuals who direct thought-energy into the Aether-Heart for extended periods report increasing difficulty distinguishing their own thoughts from the accumulated thought-residue stored within the crystal. At extreme exposure levels, documented in third-century Order records, operators have developed a condition the Order designates as Thought-Merger, in which the boundary between their consciousness and the stored energy patterns becomes too diffuse to sustain individual identity. Recovery requires months of supervised resonance therapy.
