Lore

Dwarven lore holds that the first Granite Hawk was a gift from the Celestials, sent to guide the earliest Dwarven explorers through the Ironpeak Range before the tunnel networks were fully mapped. A bonded hawk is buried with full clan honors when it dies, its primary feathers preserved as heirlooms. Other civilizations, particularly Elven couriers, are said to envy the Dwarves' mastery of these birds, and more than one diplomatic negotiation has reportedly hinged on the timely delivery of a hawk-borne message.

Role in the World

The Dwarves of the Iron Mountains train Granite Hawks as message carriers, relying on them to relay urgent communications between the scattered Dwarven Holds when underground tunnel-routes are compromised or too slow. They are considered living instruments of the Hold's administrative and military network.
