A large, powerfully built raptor whose feathers are streaked in layered grays and silvers, mimicking the exposed rock faces of the Iron Mountains' highest crags. Its talons are unusually thick and hard, nearly as dense as stone, and its keen amber eyes can spot movement across vast mountain distances.

Granite Hawks are fiercely independent and proud, tolerating only patient and respectful handlers. They form deep, lasting bonds with a single Dwarven keeper but remain wary and aloof toward strangers.

Dwarven lore holds that the first Granite Hawk was a gift from the Celestials, sent to guide the earliest Dwarven explorers through the Ironpeak Range before the tunnel networks were fully mapped. A bonded hawk is buried with full clan honors when it dies, its primary feathers preserved as heirlooms. Other civilizations, particularly Elven couriers, are said to envy the Dwarves' mastery of these birds, and more than one diplomatic negotiation has reportedly hinged on the timely delivery of a hawk-borne message.
