A sleek, medium-sized raptor whose feathers are a gradient of pale grey to pearl white, perpetually damp with a fine condensation that halos the bird in a faint mist when it takes flight. Its eyes are a striking pale violet, capable of perceiving vapor currents and thermal differentials invisible to other creatures.

Mist-Hawks are fiercely independent and intensely loyal once bonded, treating their chosen Naiad partner as an extension of their own flock. They are sharp-tempered with strangers and are known to harbor long memories for both kindness and offense.

The Sky-Merge rite that forges a handler's bond with a Mist-Hawk is one of the few Naiad ceremonies that takes place above water rather than within it, a deliberate acknowledgment that the Naiads' dominion includes the sky's water as much as the earth's. Borgang the War of the Dry Seasons, recorded in the Archives of the Deep, Mist-Hawks are credited with routing an Old Kingdom scouting force by triggering a flash fog across the Silverstream Basin, buying the Naiads three days to seal the Flow-Release Gates. Foreign envoys visiting Confluence Hall are often startled to find Mist-Hawks perched silently in the rafters, the Naiads make no effort to remove them, considering their presence a form of witness.
