Overview

Golems belongs to construct in the Landorya bestiary. Its usual habitat is Golems operated throughout Pyrakian settlements wherever heavy industry or security was required: the subterranean levels of the Crucible forge-complex, the gatehouse of Cinder Gate, and the ore-processing yards of volcanic mining operations. Appearance

Massive humanoid figures hewn from solid basalt and veined with channels of inlaid fire runes that glow amber when active, the Pyrakian Golems stand between two and three meters tall with a weight that makes the ground tremble underfoot. Their surfaces are rough-hewn volcanic stone polished smooth only at the joints, where Ember-Scribes have layered intricate rune-work to allow articulation. When the animating fire rune at their chest is lit, the entire form pulses with a slow, rhythmic inner luminescence, like a heartbeat rendered in molten light.

Temperament

Golems possess no independent will, responding only to the commands of the licensed Ember-Scribe who inscribed and activated their core rune. They exhibit no fear, hesitation, or mercy, executing directives with mechanical precision. Pyrakian custom treated a Golem's destruction as a technical loss, not a moral one, though the Forge-Masters who crafted them occasionally spoke of particular units as having a character that emerged from years of faithful service.

Abilities

  • Immense physical strength sufficient to lift basalt blocks and redirect lava flow channels
  • Fire-rune core generates intense heat, deterring melee attackers and igniting combustibles on contact
  • Near-impervious to heat damage and volcanic hazard by virtue of basalt construction
  • Can transmit simple heat-pulse signals to the Ash-Glyph Network through chest rune
  • Deactivates safely when core rune is extinguished, enabling non-destructive storage

Lore

The creation of a Golem required months of collaborative effort between a Lava-Shaper who shaped the basalt body and an Ember-Scribe who inscribed the animating fire runes, both operating under Flame-Council license. The Balance Charter restricted Golem production to prevent the creation of autonomous fire-wielding armies, mandating that all core runes be registered and their activation keys held in the Ember Archives. Drakonians inherited the Golem-crafting tradition and produce a smaller variant using dragon-scale reinforcement, though the original basalt Golems of the Pyrakian era are considered far superior in sheer durability.

Role in the World

Golems served the Pyrakian civilization as laborers, guardians, and siege auxiliaries, filling roles too dangerous or physically demanding for mortal workers. In Magma-Foundries they hauled ore and stabilized lava-channels; at the walls of cities like Ignis Aeterna they stood as tireless sentinels requiring no food, rest, or wages.
