The Grand Observatory rises from the highest elevation within Sahar-Al-Mutaqaddim, its domed roof inlaid with polished desert glass that refracts starlight into the interior's array of scrying lenses. A series of rotating crystal platforms allows observers to track star movements with exceptional precision across the unobstructed desert sky.

Positioned to exploit the Whispering Sands' famously clear, dry nights, the observatory experiences sharp nocturnal cold that is managed internally through Thermal-Arcane heating. The absence of moisture in the desert air provides near-perfect astronomical seeing conditions.

The Grand Observatory was one of the earliest great structures raised by the Desert Scholars, predating even the formal establishment of the High Scribe-Council. Its founding was driven by the belief that the stars, like the sands, carry encoded memories of the world's past. Over the centuries it became the navigational hub for the Scholars' Astral Fleet, which maintains contact and trade routes with distant civilizations including the Celestial Order and the Shimmering Isles. The Twin Solstices, when the sun and moon appear together over the dunes, are still celebrated here with great ceremony.
