The Mystarans say that Arcane Mastery was not invented but remembered, that their ancestors did not learn magic so much as wake up inside it, as though the land of Mystara had always been speaking and one day the first Mystarans simply began to listen. The Conclave of the Wise preserves a founding text, said to have been written by the first Arch-Sage, describing the moment of collective Kindling when an entire generation of Mystarans awakened simultaneously during a convergence of ley lines. Since that age, the Proving of the Veil has ensured that only those who truly command the arcane, not merely those who recite its forms, may guide the people. The current Arch-Sage, Thalindra Voidweaver, is considered by many to be the most complete practitioner of Arcane Mastery since Velisandre the Ageless herself.
