Magic Profile

Nature
Tide-Weaving is the living art of reading, predicting, and actively reshaping the rhythms of tides and oceanic magical currents, treating the sea's pulse as a fabric to be threaded rather than a force to be overcome. Practitioners describe the experience as becoming momentarily dissolved into the water itself, a loss of individual boundary that is as spiritually humbling as it is physically powerful.

Overview

Key Aspects

0

Lunar-tide cycle reading and magical timing

1

Oceanic current threading and redirection

2

Pearl-Infused Silk use as a physical medium for tide-pattern mapping

3

Weather and storm-surge attunement along coastal routes

4

Collaborative tide-working in ritual groups for large-scale effects

Practitioners

0

Tide-Weavers, dedicated ocean-current specialists who serve as navigators and coastal defenders

1

Aquamancers with oceanic specialization, hydro-magic casters who extend their practice into open-sea tidal work

2

Pearlspire navigators, civic officials who use Tide-Weaving to maintain safe coastal and river trade lanes

3

Council of Tides ritualists, scholars who study the relationship between lunar cycles and Naga magical heritage

Limitations

Tide-Weaving is bound absolutely to the lunar cycle, attempts to reshape tides during the dead moon phase yield little more than surface ripples, and overextending during a high-tide peak risks sweeping the caster's consciousness out into the open current, a dissociative state called the Drowning Trance from which some never fully return.

Common Applications

  • Moonpull Surge, a ritual that harnesses a peak high tide to drive a crushing wave against a coastal target
  • Silken Current, Pearl-Infused Silk is laid across a waterway and activated to smooth and accelerate safe passage for trade vessels
  • The Drowning Veil, a tide-working that fills a coastal area with disorienting magical fog and reversed currents
  • Tidal Cradle, a sustained working that calms storm-surge around a Naga city for the duration of a storm cycle
  • Lunar Unraveling, a counter-ritual that dismantles an opposing caster's tide-working by inverting its lunar alignment

Cultural Significance

Tide-Weaving is the invisible infrastructure of Naga maritime power, it keeps their coastal trade lanes with the Nereid safe, their river routes to Halfling Burrowtowns predictable, and their coral cities shielded from the sea's own violence. It is also the closest the Naga come to a shared spiritual practice, as the ritual acknowledgment of lunar rhythms doubles as a form of communal prayer to the Celestials who breathed life into the first living current.

Lore

The oldest Tide-Weaving tradition holds that the art was not developed but inherited, that the Naga's Celestial shapers encoded tidal knowledge directly into the serpent spirit at the moment of creation, and that the first Tide-Weavers simply learned to listen to what their own blood already knew. Borgang the Age of Coral Expansion, Naga Tide-Weavers collaborated with Nereid current-singers in a months-long ritual known as the Grand Confluence, reshaping the mouth of a major estuary to create the sheltered deep-water harbor that still anchors the greatest Naga coastal city. The Naga - The Serpentine Masters of Water and Poison regard this collaboration as the founding proof that Tide-Weaving transcends species, that the sea recognizes mastery regardless of the hand that shapes it. The Council of Tides nevertheless mandates that no Grand Confluence-scale working be attempted without unanimous Council sanction, having seen what happens when tidal magic operates beyond a single civilization's control.
