Key Aspects

0

Abyssal communion, opening the self as a channel for primal oceanic forces

1

Elemental amplification, magnifying other water-based magic through abyssal resonance

2

Thermal vent conduits, drawing energy from geothermal sources at the ocean floor

3

Creation of Pressure-Crystals, crystallizing stored tidal energy in deep-sea mineral matrices

4

Contribution to the Orb of Elemental Dominion, the apex of Deep Magic achievement

Practitioners

0

Deep-Divers, solitary mystics who descend alone to abyssal sites for communion

1

Pearl-Shapers, ritualists who crystallize raw abyssal energy into Pearl-Steel and Pressure-Crystals

2

Tide Council elders, senior overseers who alone were permitted to adjudicate use of abyssal power

3

Collaborative artificers, the Ocearan masters who worked with Pyrakian fire-smiths to forge the Orb of Elemental Dominion

Limitations

Deep Magic cannot be licensed or fully codified; the Tide Council could only regulate access to the abyssal sites where it was practiced, not the power itself. Prolonged communion with abyssal forces risks dissolution of individual consciousness, practitioners describe the sensation of their identity beginning to 'thin' like water diffusing into a limitless sea.

Common Applications

  • Abyssal Calling, a sustained ritual opening a conduit to the primal depths, flooding an area with raw elemental water-force
  • Pearl of Pelagius, a condensation ritual that crystallizes pure abyssal energy into a single luminous pearl-stone
  • The Thinning, a terrifying dissolution effect that slowly unmakes physical form by aligning it with the boundless diffusion of the deep
  • Vent-Heart Ignition, channeling a thermal vent's energy through a Pressure-Crystal to create explosive geothermal release
  • Dominion Weaving, the collaborative deep-ritual used to pour oceanic elemental force into the matrix of the Orb of Elemental Dominion

Cultural Significance

Deep Magic held a sacred, almost mythological status among the Oceara, reserved for their greatest achievements and gravest crises; its most celebrated expression was the crafting of the Orb of Elemental Dominion in collaboration with the Pyrakian fire-smiths. The modern Nereid prohibition on Abyssal Summoning is a direct continuation of Ocearan law restricting access to this power.

Lore

The Cerulean Codex devotes its most guarded passages to the Age of Magic ritual in which Ocearan Deep-Divers descended to the lowest point of the Abyssal Corridor to draw the elemental water-force needed to animate the Orb of Elemental Dominion. Legend holds that the Pyrakian fire-smiths, forging the metallic housing far above at a volcanic harbor, could feel the ocean tremble as the Oceara opened the abyssal conduit below, and that the resulting surge of power briefly caused every current in the Cerulean Deep to reverse direction simultaneously. The Oceara recorded this event as the Moment of Confluence, treating it as proof that water, given enough depth and intention, could embrace all other elements within itself.
