It feels like conducting a vast, breathing instrument: currents surge and spiral at a gesture, pressure builds or releases in invisible waves, and the sea itself becomes an extension of the caster's body.

Key Aspects
0
Tidal manipulation, reshaping the direction and force of ocean currents
1
Pressure control, compressing or releasing water pressure as a weapon or tool
2
Hydro-Defense rune-barriers repelling intruders and tectonic shocks
3
Tidal Bridge engineering, suspending current-spans between citadels
4
Tide-Stave channeling, focusing hydromantic energy through bone-coral instruments
Practitioners
0
Tide-Weavers, magical engineers who shaped currents for transport and defense
1
Tide Council licensors, governing authority regulating all hydromantic practice
2
Current-Seekers, navigator-hydromancers charting and commanding ocean corridors
3
Pressure-Smiths, deep-sea metallurgists wielding pressure magic in thermal vent foundries
Limitations
A practitioner must maintain physical or mediated contact with a body of water or a Tide-Stave to channel tidal forces; attempting to wield hydromantic pressure without such a conduit risks catastrophic implosion of the caster's own body. The Tide Council enforced strict licensing, and unauthorized pressure-wave attacks were punishable by Depth-Banishment to the lightless abyssal plains.
Common Applications
- ✦ The Crushing Embrace, a pressure-wave attack that compresses water around a target until movement becomes impossible
- ✦ Current-Weaving, the sustained shaping of a directional underwater corridor for transport or siege
- ✦ Tidal Wall, an erupting barrier of compressed seawater raised in an instant to deflect assault
- ✦ Vent-Surge, channeling geothermal pressure through a Tide-Stave to crack stone or rupture hulls
- ✦ Depth-Lock, a hydromantic seal trapping a target volume of water in absolute stillness, used in imprisonment rituals
Cultural Significance
Hydromancy was the civic backbone of Ocearan society, regulating everything from trade-route maintenance along the Ocearan Riverways to the defense of deep-sea citadels. Its legal framework and tools, particularly the prohibition on Tidal Disruption, were directly inherited by the modern Nereids of Nereidum, making Hydromancy the most enduring institutional legacy of the Oceara.
Lore
It is written in the Cerulean Codex that during the Dark Times, when surface civilizations crumbled and the Oceara retreated to the deepest trenches, the surviving Tide-Weavers pooled their power in a ritual called the Sealing of Depths, collapsing entire trench entrances behind them with precisely tuned pressure-waves to deny enemies passage. The Codex records that seventeen Tide-Weavers gave their lives in the effort, their bodies found later compressed to the density of stone, honoured ever after as the Pillars of the Deep. Ocearan law ever after treated reckless pressure-magic not merely as a crime but as a desecration of those martyrs' sacrifice. The modern Nereid ban on Tidal Disruption cites this legend explicitly in its founding charter.
