Siege-Rune Inscription
Siege-Rune Inscription is a distinct magical discipline within Landorya. Siege-Rune Inscription is the craft of carving crude but potent magical symbols directly into the timber, iron, and stone of siege engines, imbuing them with a measure of the eart… Its power is typically sourced from The runes draw on residual earth-spirit energy channeled through the forge and the act of physical inscription, anchored by the smith's own blood and will pressed into the material during the carving.. Practitioners must account for the following limits: Runes inscribed without proper communion with the earth-spirits are inert at best and catastrophically unstable at worst; a misdrawn rune under battle stress can cause a siege eng… Scholarly records also note key risks: A misaligned rune sequence under the vibration of battle can create a resonance feedback, causing the inscribed engine to fracture explosively outward, killing crew and nearby war…
Magic Profile
- Nature
- Siege-Rune Inscription is the craft of carving crude but potent magical symbols directly into the timber, iron, and stone of siege engines, imbuing them with a measure of the earth's own endurance and destructive force. The runes do not shimmer or glow prettily, they bite into the metal like scars, and the power within them feels like compressed pressure waiting to be unleashed.

Key Aspects
0
Blood-and-hammer inscription technique
1
Structural reinforcement runes for endurance and weight-bearing
2
Impact-amplification runes for projectile force
3
Warding runes against magical blight and Iron-Rot
4
Trigger runes activated by specific spoken commands or physical strikes
Practitioners
0
Runic Bards, specialist chanter-smiths who combine oral tradition with inscription craft
1
Stone-Keepers who supervise and spiritually anchor the most powerful rune-works
2
Master Siege-Builders of clans such as the Stone-Breakers mercenary company
3
Iron-Smith journeymen trained in basic structural runes for weapons and armor
Limitations
Runes inscribed without proper communion with the earth-spirits are inert at best and catastrophically unstable at worst; a misdrawn rune under battle stress can cause a siege engine to detonate or collapse. A single runic engine demands days of careful inscription, meaning large-scale runic armament is always constrained by the number of skilled Runic Bards and Stone-Keepers available.
Common Applications
- ✦ Rune of the Thunder-Ram, inscribed on battering ram heads to multiply impact force, capable of shattering magically reinforced gates
- ✦ Iron-Hold Ward, a series of interlocking runes that temporarily arrests Iron-Rot corrosion on affected siege equipment
- ✦ Rune of the Avalanche, carved into catapult arms to impart a destabilizing shockwave to hurled projectiles upon impact
- ✦ The Unbreaking, a full-body inscription ritual applied to a siege tower's load-bearing frame, bonding the wood to the spirit of the nearest stone outcrop
- ✦ Echo-Rune, a resonance inscription that allows a Runic Bard to feel structural stress in a siege engine from a distance, sensing damage before it becomes catastrophic
Cultural Significance
Siege-Rune Inscription represents the marriage of Orcish warrior culture and builder culture in its most literal form, it is the proof that the forge and the battlefield are one. Dwarven observers who have traded along the Ironspine Trail have noted with cautious respect that Orcish runic work, while rough compared to Dwarven precision, carries a raw spiritual potency that Dwarven artifice rarely matches.
Lore
The Runic Age is said to have begun when a Runic Bard named Skar Two-Fingers, having lost three fingers to a forge accident, discovered that pressing a bleeding hand against iron while chanting the Song of Gor-Mok left a permanent mark that refused to rust. Skar spent the rest of his life cataloguing forty-nine such marks, each tied to a verse of the Song, before dying at the Battle of Thorn Valley with his catapult still firing. The Orcs credit the holding of that pass in part to the runic endurance blessings Skar had burned into his war-machines the night before the battle. His original forty-nine marks remain the canonical foundation of all Siege-Rune Inscription to this day.
