The Codex Aetheris was not written in words alone, its most important passages are themselves functional sigil-arrays, meaning that a sufficiently trained Sigil-Master reading the Codex is simultaneously reading a text and activating a working, and the two cannot be separated. This design was deliberate: the Order of the Starlight's founders intended the Codex to be self-teaching, each page imprinting a resonance-memory of its content directly into the reader's aetheric field. Borgang the Dark Times, it was the Sigil-Masters who enabled the Great Veil to function without constant active maintenance, their layered Veil-Ward Inscriptions across thousands of crystal pillars allowed a skeleton crew to monitor what would otherwise have required an army of Veil-Weavers in perpetual concentration.
