Magic Profile

Nature
Earth-Pulse Crystalcraft is the specialised discipline of cultivating, charging and discharging the natural crystal formations that store raw tectonic energy, the Earth-Pulse Crystals, transforming them into batteries, weapons and arcane infrastructure nodes. It feels volatile and resonant, a crackle of deep-earth pressure compressed into glass-clear stone waiting to be released.

Key Aspects

0

Crystal Cultivation, accelerating the natural growth of Earth-Pulse Crystal formations in controlled veins

1

Charge-Reading, sensing the current energy level and structural stability of a crystal by touch

2

Directed Discharge, releasing stored tectonic energy in controlled beams, pulses or slow bleeds

3

Lattice-Bonding, fusing crystal nodes together into larger networked arrays for city-wide power distribution

4

Geothermal Glass-Forming, converting discharged crystals into the prized geothermal glass used in trade

Practitioners

0

Crystal-Wardens, specialists who maintain the city-wide Earth-Pulse Crystal arrays

1

Vein-Seekers with crystal attunement, miners trained to locate and assess natural crystal formations

2

Geothermal Glass-Smiths, artisans who process spent crystals into trade-grade geothermal glass

3

Stone Council Artificers, engineers who weaponise crystal discharge for military applications

Limitations

An overcharged Earth-Pulse Crystal becomes unstable within days and will discharge explosively without a practitioner's mediating presence; the energy stored cannot exceed what the crystal's mineral lattice can structurally sustain, and reading that threshold requires intimate sensory attunement that takes decades to develop. Crystals formed in geologically inert ground hold little usable charge and are considered worthless for the discipline.

Common Applications

  • Deep-Pulse Bolt, a focused discharge of stored tectonic energy launched as a concussive projectile
  • Lattice-Bloom, the rapid forced growth of a crystal cluster to seal a tunnel, trap a target or create a barrier
  • The Glass-Breath, a controlled total discharge that converts a crystal into a bloom of razor geothermal glass shards
  • Resonance Web, linking multiple crystals into a detection grid that vibrates when footsteps disturb the earth above
  • Slow Bleed, a sustained low-level discharge used to heat the Thermal Baths and power geomantically heated Rune-Chisels

Cultural Significance

Earth-Pulse Crystalcraft is the invisible infrastructure of Talamhari daily life, the warmth of the Thermal Baths, the illumination of subterranean streets and the power behind the Rune-Chisels all flow from managed crystal arrays. The geothermal glass produced as a by-product of spent crystals is one of the Talamhari's most sought-after trade exports, carried along underground tunnels to Zephyrian sky-ports and Ocearan riverway markets.

Lore

The Talamhari account of the Dark Times includes a passage known as the 'Night of a Thousand Heartbursts', in which panicking Crystalcraft practitioners, unable to safely discharge their city's crystal arrays during the desperate underground retreat, detonated them deliberately to collapse tunnels and slow whatever pursued the civilisation from the surface. The Stone Council's strictest regulations on crystal charge limits were written in direct response to the losses of that night, and every licensed Crystal-Warden swears an oath upon a shard of the original crystal heart of Gara-Stone never to allow their arrays to reach critical charge without authorisation. To this day, the Frostborn clans of the North-West preserve a dim memory of this catastrophe in a funeral tradition of placing a single small crystal upon a burial cairn, a ward, they say, against the darkness that once followed their ancestors underground.
