Appearance

Physical: Young and energetic with the lean build of someone still growing into adult musculature; scales are bright river-green, vivid and slightly iridescent in a way that will deepen with age; bioluminescent nodes are overactive in social situations, flushing visible amber when he is embarrassed — which is fairly often

Clothing: Standard River Guard armor of layered Living Coral plate over pearl-silk underlining, carefully maintained to a standard slightly above required; carries a guard-issue paralytic lance and a personal short-blade his family gave him at his appointment

Distinguishing Marks: A bruise-blue birthmark along the left side of his neck that his armor does not fully conceal; posture is guard-straight except when he forgets himself, at which point he slouches in the way of someone who was tall early

Relationships

  • Drevath Wardentide - Distant role model he has studied in writing more than in person; a recent cross-training session with the Water-Warden has given him his first direct professional contact, which he has handled with concentrated composure
  • Sethrak Tidesinger - Performer he genuinely admires and also now monitors as a social intelligence source; Sethrak is aware of this and finds it amusing
  • Threxis Pearldiver - Older colleague who takes him for drinks and gives him advice about navigating the port that his supervisors would not — he trusts her practical knowledge more than almost anyone

Backstory

Arxyn grew up in Delta-Haven's harbor district, the son of a River Guard who died in a routine patrol accident when Arxyn was eleven. He joined the Guard at eighteen partly from family tradition and partly from a specific belief, formed at eleven, that Delta-Haven needed better guards than the ones his parent served with. He has been a guard for nine years and is already past the age at which his parent died, a fact he notes without drama in his private log at the beginning of each year. He was assigned to the Delta-Haven harbor circuit two years ago after distinguishing himself in a river-vessel ambush response that his commanding officer wrote up for commendation.

Daily Life

Arxyn runs a morning circuit of Delta-Haven's waterfront before official duty begins, a personal habit he started at eighteen that his supervisor knows about and has never officially acknowledged. Guard rotation takes most of the day — port access monitoring, merchant dispute mediation, the occasional arrest. He attends every optional training exercise available. Evenings he is a regular at Delta-Haven's waterfront taverns, initially for social connection, now also because Sethrak Tidesinger's performances regularly surface information useful to his patrol work and he has started paying attention to that.

Secret

Arxyn discovered three months ago that a senior River Guard in his circuit is taking payments from a merchant family to look away from shipments that bypass standard inspection. He has been documenting this rather than reporting it, telling himself he needs sufficient evidence. The real hesitation is that the senior guard was his parent's partner, and he does not know how to navigate what it means to report that.

Story Hooks

  • 1 The corrupt senior guard Arxyn has been quietly documenting is promoted to a position with even broader oversight access; Arxyn must act or watch the problem scale, and he needs someone outside the Guard structure to help him think through it
  • 2 A foreign vessel arrives in Delta-Haven with forged inspection papers and a cargo that Arxyn cannot categorize; the proper response puts him in conflict with his chain of command, who seem reluctant to escalate, and he turns to the players as external parties

Narrative Value

Arxyn offers players a young, principled contact in Delta-Haven who is navigating the gap between ideals and institutional reality in real time. He is a compelling entry point into port-level Naga society and a character whose integrity has a cost that the narrative can make visible.
