Backstory
Delphine trained as a Tide-Reader under the Pearl Court's most demanding elder, spending her first thirty years memorizing the great song-cycles of Nereid law rather than recording written history. A generation into that work, she grew troubled by the gaps she found: events that the oral cycles glossed over with suspiciously harmonious verses and dates that did not align with coral-growth records in the underwater libraries. She petitioned the Court to establish a written archive supplementing the oral tradition, and after two decades of argument she was granted the role of Court Historian with authority to do exactly that. The archive she has built is now considered the most comprehensive record of Nereid civilization in existence. She has never told anyone that her private research suggests the Pearl Court's founding legend contains a fabrication she has chosen, for now, to leave in place.

Delphine spends her days in the archives, sorting records, translating ancient texts, and transcribing current events for posterity. She takes tea with visiting scholars and occasionally advises the royal family on historical precedents.
