Orcish Siege Engines

Overview

The Orc Tribes of the Orcish Highlands have developed formidable siege engines optimized for war, conquest, and the reduction of fortifications. Favoring raw engineering power over magical refinement, their technology is brutal, pragmatic, and highly effective, built from scavenged and repurposed materials taken from defeated enemies. Their arsenal includes Ironclad Rams, Catapults of Doom, and reinforced siege towers that can overcome almost any static defense.

How It Works

Orcish siege technology relies on the application of overwhelming mechanical force, using the mass and momentum of ironclad battering rams to breach gates and walls, and the stored elastic or torsional energy of catapult mechanisms to hurl destructive projectiles at range. Siege towers provide elevated assault platforms constructed from reinforced timber and salvaged metal, allowing warriors to breach walls at height. The orcish approach deliberately avoids magical complexity in favour of robust, easily field-repaired brute engineering.

Applications

  • Ironclad Rams for breaching gates and fortification walls
  • Catapults of Doom for long-range bombardment of enemy positions
  • Reinforced siege towers for elevated wall assault
  • Scavenging and repurposing of captured enemy technology and materials for continued campaign engineering

Limitations

Low to moderate technological level overall; deliberate avoidance of magic limits versatility; scavenged construction means quality and consistency vary depending on available materials; siege engines are slow to move and deploy

History

Orcish siege engineering developed in the harsh competitive environment of the Orcish Highlands, where inter-tribal warfare and raids against more fortified civilizations drove constant innovation in methods of destruction and conquest. The orcs' pragmatic philosophy of scavenging and repurposing enemy technology allowed them to rapidly adapt and upgrade their arsenal without the need for specialized production infrastructure. While rated low to moderate overall, their siege technology in particular represents a genuine and dangerous threat to any fortified position in Landorya.
