Ignaelite Blades

Also known as: Order Blades, Ignaelite Swords, Flamesteel Blades

Ignaelite Blades are a class of weapons forged from Ignaelite, the crimson-veined volcanic iron alloy produced exclusively at Forgepeak through a process that folds volcanic iron with dragon scale shavings and quenches the result in molten obsidian. The blades retain heat indefinitely without external fuel, can channel fire magic with extraordinary efficiency, and are reserved exclusively for members of the Obsidian Order. Each blade is individually commissioned and personally assigned; the existence of an Ignaelite Blade in a non-Order member's possession is treated as evidence of either theft or murder.

Overview

Ignaelite Blades is a rare weapon in Landorya. Its known origin is Ignaelite as a material was developed in Forgepeak's founding era through collaborative experimentation between the fire and earth clan forge-masters under Ministry of the Forge authority. The decision to restrict Ignaelite weapons exclusively to the Obsidian Order was Korathyn Blackfire's own, establishing a clear material distinction between ruling class and general military that has been maintained ever since.. It is currently associated with Individual Obsidian Order members; each blade is named and assigned. Its most cited abilities include Indefinite heat retention: the blade maintains the temperature of its last heating without any external fuel source, making it capable of cauterizing wounds or igniting combustibles on contact as long as it has been recently brought to temperature, Fire magic channeling: spells cast through an Ignaelite Blade gain enhanced intensity and precision, with output roughly tripling compared to casting without the blade, and Scale-hardening: dragon scale shavings in the alloy give the blade edge hardness exceeding any mundane metal, capable of cutting through stone. Accounts also warn of a drawback: An Ignaelite Blade that kills an unbonded dragon — considered the gravest possible crime in Drakonian culture — will heat beyond its normal operational tempera…

History

The most famous Ignaelite Blade in Drakonian history is the weapon Korathyn Blackfire carried during the Dragon Schism resolution combats, now preserved in the Serpentine Archives as the founding artifact of the Order series. The blade carried by Draegos Ironmaw, the current Lord of the Flame, is named Pyraxis's Tooth after the volcano, and was the blade he bore during his three-day duel with Zharak the Unyielding. The current Master of the Forge, Rhenka Irontooth, is the only living smith who holds the complete Ignaelite formula, which she keeps memorized rather than written.

Powers & Abilities

  • Indefinite heat retention: the blade maintains the temperature of its last heating without any external fuel source, making it capable of cauterizing wounds or igniting combustibles on contact as long as it has been recently brought to temperature
  • Fire magic channeling: spells cast through an Ignaelite Blade gain enhanced intensity and precision, with output roughly tripling compared to casting without the blade
  • Scale-hardening: dragon scale shavings in the alloy give the blade edge hardness exceeding any mundane metal, capable of cutting through stone
  • Draconic resonance: nearby bonded dragons respond to drawn Ignaelite Blades with a subtle behavioral shift toward alertness and readiness, effectively acting as a battle-readiness signal

Curse or Drawback

An Ignaelite Blade that kills an unbonded dragon — considered the gravest possible crime in Drakonian culture — will heat beyond its normal operational temperature and cannot be cooled by any means until formally purified by the Dragon Wardens in a ceremony requiring three bonded dragons and taking seven days. Blades involved in such acts have historically been found and confiscated before this outcome was widely known, suggesting the Obsidian Order tracks each blade's use.
