Dream-Catcher Circlet

Also known as: The Dream-Net, Mind-Reader's Crown

The Dream-Catcher Circlet is a delicate band of woven Veil-Silk and Star-Thread set with a single small Twilight Crystal at its center, which when worn above the brow of a sleeping or waking Dream-Weaver captures and stores the dreams of any sleeping being within range, allowing the wearer to replay stored dreams in full sensory detail, enter them as a navigable space, or subtly reshape their content. It is one of the most ethically contested artifacts sanctioned by the Fey Court of the Eternal Twilight.

Origin
The circlet design was pioneered by Dream-Smith researchers at the Starbloom Reach Academy studying the boundary between the Dream-Weave and individual consciousness. The first functional prototype was created to assist with the therapeutic recovery of Fey who had suffered memory damage from Veil-Fade, by providing access to their own pre-damage dream-layer as a reconstruction aid. Subsequent iterations expanded its capabilities in directions that the Academy's ethics board has periodically questioned.

Overview

Dream-Catcher Circlet is a very rare circlet in Landorya. Its known origin is The circlet design was pioneered by Dream-Smith researchers at the Starbloom Reach Academy studying the boundary between the Dream-Weave and individual consciousness. The first functional prototype was created to assist with the therapeutic recovery of Fey who had suffered memory damage from Veil-Fade, by providing access to their own pre-damage dream-layer as a reconstruction aid. Subsequent iterations expanded its capabilities in directions that the Academy's ethics board has periodically questioned.. It is currently associated with The Veil-Council of Scholars (multiple circlets exist; access controlled by the Council). Its most cited abilities include Dream Capture: passively records the complete dream content of all sleeping beings within a moderate radius from when the circlet is donned, Replay Access: allows the wearer to experience stored dreams in full sensory reconstruction, indistinguishable from the original experience, and Dream Entry: permits the wearer to enter a stored dream as an active participant rather than a passive observer, interacting with its contents. Accounts also warn of a drawback: Wearers who use the reshaping function repeatedly report that their own dreams begin to incorporate elements from the hundreds of dreams they have accessed, un…

History

The Ministry of Whisper and Diplomacy has used Dream-Catcher Circlets in three documented intelligence operations, details of which remain classified. The Ministry of Balance and Judgement has approved their use in adjudication proceedings where memory of disputed events is relevant, with strict protocols around consent. A standing prohibition exists against their use on non-Fey beings without explicit treaty authorization, a prohibition violated during the period preceding the Weeping Glade Incident and cited as a contributing factor to the Incident's diplomatic fallout.

Powers & Abilities

  • Dream Capture: passively records the complete dream content of all sleeping beings within a moderate radius from when the circlet is donned
  • Replay Access: allows the wearer to experience stored dreams in full sensory reconstruction, indistinguishable from the original experience
  • Dream Entry: permits the wearer to enter a stored dream as an active participant rather than a passive observer, interacting with its contents
  • Subtle Reshaping: allows limited modification of a captured dream's content before it concludes, affecting the dreamer's subconscious associations without their waking awareness
  • Memory Extraction: skilled Dream-Smiths can use the circlet to pull specific memory-adjacent content from the dream layer, accessing information the dreamer possesses but may not consciously recall

Curse or Drawback

Wearers who use the reshaping function repeatedly report that their own dreams begin to incorporate elements from the hundreds of dreams they have accessed, until their sleep becomes a layered archive of other minds' experiences that makes genuine rest difficult. Senior Dream-Weavers warn that long-term Circlet users eventually lose the ability to identify which memories are originally theirs.
