Geography

The glade occupies a natural depression where moisture collects and the soil is exceptionally rich, conditions that produced an unusual density of Lumen-Willow growth over millennia. The valley's shape funnels the light-motes toward its center, where they accumulate in visible drifts around the root bases of the oldest trees. The restored soil bears faint silver striations where liquid twilight once poisoned it, marks that the Root-Singers have chosen to leave visible as a memorial.

Climate

The light-mote precipitation creates a microclimate unlike any other in the realm, where the falling luminescence warms the air slightly and keeps the valley floor consistently frost-free even during the Shadow-Wane Gleam. The sound of motes striking leaf-litter is a perpetual soft hiss that residents of the glade describe as the forest breathing. Since the Weeping Glade Incident, faint residual anti-illusion fields drift through the valley at unpredictable intervals, causing glamours to stutter momentarily.

History

The glade was a place of unmarked peace for centuries before the Weeping Glade Incident of 1231 YR, when a mortal arcane academy experimenting with anti-illusion fields near the realm's border inadvertently tore a hole in the Weave at this location. The tear caused the Lumen-Willows to weep actual liquid twilight rather than light-motes, poisoning the soil and driving all fauna into flight. Root-Singer Aelwyn Fernwhisper led a three-year restoration effort that sealed the breach and nursed the glade back to ecological health, a feat that earned her a place among the most honored Root-Singers of the age. The incident remains the most frequently cited example in Twilight Council debates over mortal access to the realm.

Legend & Lore

Elder Fey claim that before the Incident, the glade was the quietest location in the entire realm: the light-motes fell in such perfect rhythm that they cancelled all other sound, creating a silence so complete that those who meditated here could hear their own Veil-seed pulsing. After the restoration, that perfect silence returned almost but not entirely, and Fey with very fine hearing can detect a faint, irregular catch in the pattern, as though the glade still remembers its injury. Fernwhisper reportedly wept when she first heard it again.

Life & Culture

The glade is now a site of dual purpose: a monitoring station maintained by the Ministry of Growth and Renewal, and a place of pilgrimage for Root-Singers who come to study Fernwhisper's restoration methods. Permanent residents are few, mostly scholars and a rotating watch-team who log any anti-illusion field fluctuations and relay them to the Twilight Council. Informal ceremonies honoring Fernwhisper's work are held here annually, attended by students of Root-Resonance from every Court-Circle who come to touch the restored soil and feel the difference between land that has been healed and land that has merely grown back.
