The islands range from small personal retreats no larger than a garden to the substantial platform of Starbloom Reach, the largest among them. They float at varying altitudes, some barely above the treetops, others so high that their lower surfaces vanish into haze. Waterfalls pour from their edges and evaporate before reaching the forest floor, forming permanent mist curtains that serve as natural borders.

At island altitude the air is sharper and cooler than at ground level, carrying a static charge from proximity to concentrated twilight energy. Light behaves differently here, arriving from multiple angles due to reflections off neighboring islands, creating environments free of true shadow. Stars are visible even during the realm's deepest equivalent of midday, pulled close by the elevated and rarefied atmospheric conditions.

The islands have drifted above the realm since before recorded Fey history. Star-Fey settlement of them is documented as far back as the Age of Solitary Spirits, and the islands' unique magical properties, particularly their enhancement of Dream-Weaving abilities, drew the most gifted dreamers of every generation upward. After the Twilight Covenant was established, the Star-Fey Circle formalized the islands' role as a center of advanced magical research, founding the Starbloom Reach Academy.

Star-Fey oral tradition teaches that the islands are fragments of a moon that existed before Landorya's current moon, shattered in a catastrophe the Celestials chose not to record. This is said to explain why the Star-Fey, who dwell upon them, carry within their skin the light of a sky that no longer exists. The legend is treated skeptically by Grove-Fey scholars but reverently by the Star-Fey themselves, for whom it forms the core of their identity.

Life on the Floating Luminant Islands is quieter and more contemplative than in the groves or marshes below. Star-Fey tend their Drift-Gardens, cultivate Starbloom Moss for trade, and pursue long-unbroken meditative sessions within the Dream-Weave that can last decades at a stretch. The Starbloom Reach Academy accepts students from every Fey subtype but notes that non-Star-Fey visitors frequently experience involuntary waking dreams from the concentrated ambient magic, a side effect that instructors treat as an accelerant to the learning process rather than an obstacle.
