Ildris's Vigil
Also known as: The Vigil, Ildris's Flame, The Never-Dark
Ildris's Vigil is an ancient lantern forged from a single Twilight Crystal set within a cage of living Thornheart Bramble that has burned without ceasing since the night of the Shadow-Wane siege of Thornshade Hollow in 1189 YR, fueled by neither oil nor spell but by the Veil-seed of the Glimmerguard soldier Ildris who gave their life sealing the breach in the Fey Gate that the Drakonian raiders had forced. The lantern is the emotional and spiritual center of Thornshade Hollow's garrison culture.

History
Ildris's Vigil has stood in the Glimmerguard Command Hall since its creation and has never left Thornshade Hollow. Captain Faela Thornshade is documented as having touched the lantern immediately before every significant tactical decision she has made since taking command, a personal ritual she describes only as a conversation. When a junior ranger once suggested moving the lantern to a more protected location during a threat assessment drill, the entire garrison expressed objection with an unanimity that impressed and slightly alarmed the Ministry of Balance and Judgement observer present.
