Ice Gem Crowns

Also known as: chief's crown, the gem crowns, frost crowns

Ice Gem Crowns are the formal regalia of Frostborn Clan Chiefs, worn exclusively during the Klanmot — the great inter-clan gathering — and other ceremonies of the highest significance. Each Crown is a unique work of artistry crafted from ice-steel and set with rare, magically potent Ice Gems harvested from the deepest formations within the most ancient glaciers of the Frostbound Wastes. Deep-glacier Ice Gems carry a concentrated natural magical charge accumulated over centuries of compression and cold, and the Crowns' settings are designed to focus and express this energy as a visible aura — a faint blue-white nimbus surrounding the Chief's head that signals the authority of their office to all observers. No two Crowns are identical; each is crafted to reflect the personality and clan traditions of the Chief who will wear it.

History

Each Crown passes from Chief to Chief within its clan, with each transfer accompanied by a ceremony in which the retiring or deceased Chief's Ice Gems are evaluated by the clan's shamans — some gems are retained in the Crown for the new Chief, while others are removed and added to the clan's gem-treasury as a record of past chiefs. New gems are added to represent the new Chief's own era. The Frosthollow Clan's Crown carries the largest and most varied gem collection of any clan's, its stones accumulating for generations as the most politically active of the Frostborn clans.
