Runic Ice Tablets
Also known as: ice-records, frost-tablets, the archive tablets
Runic Ice Tablets are permanent records inscribed in the Frozen Archive, produced when rune-literate archivists carve the Frostborn runic alphabet into specially prepared blocks of deep-glacier ice harvested from formations within the Archive's stable constant-temperature cavern. Unlike surface ice, which would crack, shift, and eventually melt even in the Frostbound Wastes' summer warmth, deep-glacier ice of sufficient age and density enters a stable crystalline state that resists thermal changes indefinitely at the Archive's temperatures. The tablets preserve treaties, genealogies, territorial agreements, oral histories, and other records of critical importance against the passage of time — serving as the backbone of institutional Frostborn memory in a society whose primary tradition is oral.

Overview
Runic Ice Tablets is a common record in Landorya. Its known origin is The formalized Runic Ice Tablet system was established in the generation following the Age of Fracture, when the near-total destruction of several clans demonstrated how fragile purely oral tradition was to catastrophic loss. The first generation of archivists developed the harvesting and preparation techniques for suitable ice, and the inscription standards used by every Frostborn archivist since descend from their early experimental work.. Its most cited abilities include Indefinite stability at the Archive's maintained temperature, resisting change for centuries, Inscriptions readable by touch as well as sight, allowing use in darkness or by the visually impaired, and Runic content that can be sealed with authentication marks by shamans, verifying the integrity of treaties and agreements.
History
The Frozen Archive now holds thousands of tablets, the oldest being the Founding Tablets whose rune-style predates the modern Frostborn alphabet and whose full content has not been definitively translated. Among the most significant recent additions are the transcription tablets prepared by Elder Astrid Longmemory, who has been spending her final decades converting five centuries of oral history — received from her own great-grandmother in unbroken chain — into permanent runic form. These tablets are considered the most comprehensive record of pre-Fracture Frostborn history in existence.
