The Whispering Spire

The Whispering Spire is a three-hundred-foot tower of grown Aether Crystal built around a central Aetherite-Alloy armature, rising from the highest point of Gearhaven's citadel district. Its exterior is studded with thousands of individually calibrated crystal nodes, each inscribed with directional resonance runes by master Crystal-Engravers over four decades of continuous work. When active, the Spire amplifies signals from individual Whispering Orbs and broadcasts them through the Resonant Relay Chain — a continent-spanning network of smaller Signal Spires placed on mountain peaks — enabling near-instantaneous voice communication between any two points in Landorya where a relay node exists. During the annual Aether-Night festival, the Spire broadcasts a single harmonic tone continent-wide, a tradition that has become one of Landorya's most recognised annual events.

History
For the first decade of operation, the Spire could only relay signals between Gearhaven and the two nearest Cog-Boroughs. Gradual placement of mountain-peak relay nodes expanded its reach over the following century until continent-wide coverage was achieved. The expanding Resonant Relay Chain fundamentally altered Landoryan diplomacy: Gnomish Gear-Envoys, equipped with public-frequency Whispering Orbs, could report to Gearhaven in real time from any allied capital. During the Ember Rift Conflict of Year 842 AE, Drakonian war-lords dispatched a sabotage team to scale the Spire and destroy its upper crystal array; the attack was repelled by a dedicated Bulwark Unit in what chronicles record as the Battle of the Resonant Peak. The Spire remains Gearhaven's most strategically vital installation, guarded continuously by an Automaton Guard Corps detachment.
