Geography
Crystal-Glen occupies a dense mixed forest where mineral-rich groundwater has caused large crystal formations to grow embedded within and among the trees over millennia. The forest floor is uneven with protruding crystal clusters, and narrow gnomish pathways wind between them. The glen lies within the broader Verdant Lowlands surrounding the Gearhaven Basin.
Climate
Sheltered by the forest canopy and lowland terrain, Crystal-Glen enjoys a mild and somewhat humid climate year-round. The crystals themselves emit low heat during their self-recharge cycles, keeping frost rare even in the depths of winter.

History
Crystal-Glen has been a site of Gnomish habitation since early artificers discovered that the forest's crystals could be enchanted with resonance runes to store magical energy. The Elven Crystal Pact was partly forged to regulate the flow of Aether Crystals from this region, exchanging them for Gnomish Clockwork Artifacts in a relationship that has endured for generations. The glen's resources became fiercely contested during the Drakonian hostilities, as control of Aether Crystal supplies was central to powering the Flame-Resistant Gear-Shells used in the Chronicle of the Ember Rift.
Legend & Lore
It is whispered among the elder artificers of Crystal-Glen that the very first Aether Crystal ever enchanted still pulses somewhere deep within the forest's heart, buried beneath the roots of an ancient tree whose bark has grown around it over centuries, fusing wood and mineral into a single living monument. Gnomish children are told that if you press your ear to the bark of the oldest trees at the deepest hour of night, you can hear the original resonance rune still humming its slow, unending note. Borgang the Drakonian hostilities, a company of flame-armored soldiers allegedly marched into the glen to seize the crystal reserves and was never seen again, their fate attributed to the glen's own defensive light, which is said to blind and disorient those who enter with ill intent. The Elven Crystal Pact is rumored to contain a secret clause, never read aloud, that binds both signatories to protect this buried crystal above all other terms.
Life & Culture
Each morning, Crystal-Glen's gnomish harvesters don their prismatic-lens goggles and set out along the narrow winding paths between crystal clusters, tapping formations with tuning rods to test resonance before carefully extracting segments with aetherite chisels, work that demands patience, precision, and a trained ear. The enchanting stations are set into natural alcoves among the tree roots, where artificers etch resonance runes by the crystals' own ambient glow, needing no lantern in a forest that is never truly dark. Midday brings a communal meal eaten on flat crystal outcroppings, the shifting prismatic light above casting rainbow patterns across the gathered gnomes, a spectacle so routine that it is nonetheless greeted each day with quiet appreciation. In the evenings, finished Whispering Orbs are tested by holding them aloft in the canopy's refracted light, a completed orb will catch the glow and emit a soft, sustained chime, signaling the day's quota met and earning its maker the right to carve a small rune-mark into the bark of their personal work-tree.
