The plateau rises sharply above the Gearhaven Basin, its flat upper surface broken by clusters of fumarole fields and low volcanic ridges. Gnomish engineers have channeled the natural steam vents into a network of regulated pipes and pressure chambers that power the borough's workshops. The elevation makes overland travel to Gearhaven a winding, steep affair along switchback gear-rail tracks.
