Geography
Aetherite-Ridge is a serrated line of rocky highland running along the southeastern edge of the Ironspine Mountains, with mineral seams that plunge deep into shared subterranean geology with the Dwarven tunnels below. Gnomish surface-mining operations and Dwarven underground excavations frequently intersect, making boundary demarcation a constant source of tension. The terrain is open, windswept, and sparsely vegetated.
Climate
The ridge experiences harsh, exposed conditions with cold, gusty winds year-round and heavy snowfall in winter. The lack of forest cover offers little shelter, and Gnomish outpost structures are built low and bolted to the rock to resist the constant gales.

History
Aetherite-Ridge has been at the heart of the Gnome-Dwarf relationship for as long as records exist, originally prompting the Dwarven Alloy Accord that trades Aetherite-Alloy for Gnomish Steam-Tech. Despite the accord, periodic skirmishes over mining rights have broken out, particularly when new seams are discovered straddling the ill-defined border. The Aetherite-Alloy extracted here is considered strategically critical, being the primary material for Aetherite-Alloy Clock-Blades capable of cutting through both steel and magical barriers.
Legend & Lore
It is whispered among the ridge-workers that on moonless nights, when the wind cuts hardest across the Ironspine escarpment, the ghost of a Gnomish surveyor named Tindrel Cogsfoot walks the boundary markers she planted three centuries ago, markers long since swallowed by disputed Dwarven tunnelling. According to the tale, she etched the true border into a seam of pure Aetherite-Alloy so deep that neither Gnome nor Dwarf has yet reached it, and that the first pickaxe to strike her hidden line will either seal the Dwarven Alloy Accord in perpetuity or shatter it utterly. Miners on both sides leave small offerings of steam-oil at the deepest shaft heads before each new bore is sunk, hoping to appease her restless spirit. The Gnomish federation officially dismisses the legend, though senior engineers have been known to consult the old survey maps with an almost religious reverence.
Life & Culture
Life at Aetherite-Ridge is governed by the rhythm of the extraction shift, three rotations of workers descending into surface-cut trenches at dawn, midday, and dusk, each crew marked by the coloured steam-scarves that identify their claim sector. The windswept terrain offers little shelter, so prefabricated brass-framed mess-tents, bolted to iron stakes driven into the rock, serve as the social heart of the settlement; it is here that shift-leads negotiate minor boundary disputes over tin cups of bitter coal-brew before they can escalate into federation-level crises. Every newly opened seam must be assayed and co-registered with a Dwarven tunnel-warden under the protocols of the Dwarven Alloy Accord, a bureaucratic ritual that can stretch for days and frequently involves tense underground meetings at the intersection of Gnomish shafts and Dwarven galleries. Clock-Blade blanks, rough-cut from the freshest Aetherite-Alloy slabs, are loaded onto armoured steam-crawlers at the ridge's single fortified depot and dispatched west under armed escort, their value making every convoy a potential target.
