Cinder Crown
Also known as: Crown of the Archon, Trial Crown
A circlet forged from cooled lava and Pyrosteel, shaped in the form of interlocking flame-tongues that rise to five peaked points representing the five Pyro-Archons of the Flame-Council. Each crown is unique, formed in the moments when the successful candidate emerges from the Trial of the Inferno, their passage through the living lava river allowing a Forge-Master to shape the still-malleable volcanic material around their brow. The result is an artifact that carries the literal imprint of the moment of ascension, fused from the same lava the wearer survived.

History
The most celebrated Cinder Crown is that of Valdris himself, preserved in a sealed vault within the Obsidian Citadel, still faintly warm to the touch after three thousand years. During the height of Pyrakian civilization there were always five Cinder Crowns in active wear, one per Archon. When the civilization declined, surviving Archons carried their Crowns along Magma-Caravan routes; some were interred with their wearers, others were donated to the nascent Drakonian Obsidian Order. Drakonian fire-priests regard any Cinder Crown as a relic of supreme authority, and the rediscovery of a lost one is treated as a dynastic event of the highest order.

Curse or Drawback
A Cinder Crown formed from the lava river binds to its maker in a literal sense: if a deposed Archon attempts to destroy their Crown rather than surrender it, the Pyrosteel resists all conventional means of smelting. Those who resort to crude force find the broken fragments burn cold, an ill omen that Pyrakian tradition interprets as Pyrathon's withdrawal of favor.
