Crystal Harp

Also known as: The Star Harp, Veyra's Harp, The Harmony Instrument

A ceremonial harp of spun Celestial Crystal strings mounted in a frame of Temporal Alloy shaped in the form of the Infinity Loop, approximately the height of a seated adult. Each of the forty-seven strings is tuned to a precise frequency within one of the five Fundamental Arcana, and the complete instrument spans the full harmonic range of the Ætheric Net in a single playable scale. When sounded by a trained Resonance Singer, the Crystal Harp does not merely produce music but actively interfaces with the local resonance field, the vibrations of the strings coupling to the Ætheric Net and producing macro-scale harmonic effects in the surrounding environment.

Origin
The Crystal Harp was constructed by the Order's master Resonance-Weavers in the third century under Veyra's direction, using Crystal strings grown from a single parent crystal donated by the Celestial Order's Terra-domain patron and Temporal Alloy smelted in the Chronos-Spire's temporal envelope. It was designed specifically to serve as the primary instrument in the Song of the Five ceremony, which Veyra formalised as part of her restructuring of the Order's ceremonial practice.

Overview

Crystal Harp is a legendary instrument in Landorya. Its known origin is The Crystal Harp was constructed by the Order's master Resonance-Weavers in the third century under Veyra's direction, using Crystal strings grown from a single parent crystal donated by the Celestial Order's Terra-domain patron and Temporal Alloy smelted in the Chronos-Spire's temporal envelope. It was designed specifically to serve as the primary instrument in the Song of the Five ceremony, which Veyra formalised as part of her restructuring of the Order's ceremonial practice.. It is currently associated with Temple of the First Dawn, the Starlight Observatory, where it is played for major ceremonies and kept under resonance-stabilising covers between uses. Its most cited abilities include Interface with the local Ætheric Net when played, producing harmonic reinforcement of whichever fundamental force corresponds to the strings being sounded, Calm or harmonise disrupted resonance fields in the surrounding area through sustained performance, used in ritual purification of sites affected by Entropic contamination, and Serve as the lead instrument in the Song of the Five ceremony, coordinating the resonance output of an entire choir of Resonance Singers into a unified field effect. Accounts also warn of a drawback: The Crystal Harp's strings, once sounded, continue to resonate at below-audible frequencies for hours. Prolonged exposure to this sub-harmonic continuation cau…

History

The Crystal Harp has been sounded at every major Celestial Order ceremony since its construction: every Celestial Convergence observation, every Grand Resonance Rite, every Rift Remembrance Day, and every Oracle's Dawn. The instrument's longest continuous performance occurred during the Celestial Convergence eighty years ago, when the lead Resonance Singer performed the full Song of the Five without interruption for seven hours while the Ætheric Net was briefly visible across the continent. The performance was later credited with extending the Net's visibility duration by an estimated two hours beyond what the Convergence alone would have produced.

Powers & Abilities

  • Interface with the local Ætheric Net when played, producing harmonic reinforcement of whichever fundamental force corresponds to the strings being sounded
  • Calm or harmonise disrupted resonance fields in the surrounding area through sustained performance, used in ritual purification of sites affected by Entropic contamination
  • Serve as the lead instrument in the Song of the Five ceremony, coordinating the resonance output of an entire choir of Resonance Singers into a unified field effect
  • Amplify the carrying range of Stellar-Messages by providing a harmonic carrier frequency over which encoded communications travel more clearly
  • Resonate with the emotions of listeners at a sub-perceptual level, inducing calm, attunement, and receptivity to Oracle communications in unprepared audiences

Curse or Drawback

The Crystal Harp's strings, once sounded, continue to resonate at below-audible frequencies for hours. Prolonged exposure to this sub-harmonic continuation causes sensitive individuals to enter a receptive state indistinguishable from light trance, losing track of time and becoming unusually open to suggestion or prophetic experience. Resonance Singers who perform on the Harp extensively develop a chronic sensitivity to harmonic frequencies that makes ordinary music, conversation, and environmental sound increasingly overwhelming over years of practice.
