Spherical Dome

Also known as: The Dome, The Hovering Citadel

The Spherical Dome is a hovering citadel constructed from interlocking panels of Celestial Crystal and Temporal Alloy, its outer surface engraved with the combined sigils of all five Celestials in a pattern that allows the structure to modulate the fundamental laws of matter and space within its interior. When active, the Dome can create a pocket-dimension inside itself, a self-contained space with its own physical rules, providing a sanctioned environment for experiments or containment scenarios that would be hazardous in the normal material plane. It is the most architecturally ambitious artifact in the Celestial Order's possession and the only one that qualifies as a mobile structure.

Overview

Spherical Dome is a unique citadel in Landorya. Its known origin is The Spherical Dome was jointly created by Terra and Aether, the two Celestials whose domains most directly govern the principles of matter and space that the artifact modulates. It was designed during the Age of Restoration as a research tool that would allow the Celestial Order to study dangerous resonance phenomena in contained conditions without risking the stability of the surrounding material world.. It is currently associated with Celestial Order, docked at the Temple of the First Dawn's upper platform between deployments. Its most cited abilities include Create a stable pocket-dimension in its interior with modifiable matter and space laws, sanctioned by the Celestial Order's Conclave, Hover at any altitude and navigate through the Ætheric Net under the direction of an Aether-domain operator, and Generate a spatial shield around itself that deflects hostile magic and physical projectiles by displacing them fractionally out of phase. Accounts also warn of a drawback: Individuals who spend extended periods inside an active pocket-dimension generated by the Dome experience spatial disorientation upon returning to the normal m…

History

The Dome has been deployed for eight formally documented operational missions in its history, including the containment of two Entropic Rift events that could not be safely sealed from outside without risk of cascade failure, and a three-month research mission into the spatial properties of the Shattered Isles. Each deployment requires Circle of Five authorisation and a full Conclave review of the intended pocket-dimension parameters to ensure compliance with the Balancing Edict's prohibition on unsanctioned dimensional creation.

Powers & Abilities

  • Create a stable pocket-dimension in its interior with modifiable matter and space laws, sanctioned by the Celestial Order's Conclave
  • Hover at any altitude and navigate through the Ætheric Net under the direction of an Aether-domain operator
  • Generate a spatial shield around itself that deflects hostile magic and physical projectiles by displacing them fractionally out of phase
  • Modulate interior gravity, atmosphere, and temporal flow independently of the exterior environment
  • Serve as a mobile resonance broadcasting station, extending the Ætheric Net's effective range in underserved areas

Curse or Drawback

Individuals who spend extended periods inside an active pocket-dimension generated by the Dome experience spatial disorientation upon returning to the normal material plane: their intuitive sense of distance and dimension requires recalibration, and severe cases have reported perceiving the normal world as intolerably constrained, the ordinary rules of space feeling like physical pressure after the freedom of modifiable law. Extended operators of the Dome who have created many pocket-dimensions over years of use sometimes lose the ability to reliably distinguish between normal space and residual pocket-dimension effects in their environment.
