Appearance

The Galehorn resembles a great stag built entirely from condensed wind and storm-cloud, its body translucent and perpetually in motion, muscles of churning grey mist, antlers of crackling static electricity that branch like forked lightning frozen mid-strike. It leaves no footprints, for it never fully touches any surface, drifting an inch above stone or cloud alike with an unnatural, serene weightlessness.

Temperament

Ancient and inscrutable, the Galehorn does not behave with the predictability of mortal beasts. It appears at moments of great celestial significance, eclipses, conjunctions, or when the floating islands of Caelum are threatened, and vanishes without trace once the moment has passed. It neither attacks unprovoked nor responds to summoning.

Abilities

  • Generates sustained gale-force winds in a wide radius simply by moving at speed
  • Antlers discharge arcs of static electricity capable of disrupting magical workings or stunning opponents
  • Can phase partially into wind-form, becoming effectively impossible to physically strike
  • Its passage accelerates or redirects existing weather systems in the surrounding sky
  • Presence alone suppresses enemy aeromancy, disrupting the air magic of those not native to Caelum

Lore

The oldest Aeriel records describe a Galehorn appearing at the founding of Caelum itself, circling the archipelago three times before dissolving into the prevailing wind, interpreted ever since as the sky's own blessing upon the Aeriel people's celestial mandate. During the Duskwind Crisis thirty years ago, Archon Seraphis Dawnmantle reported witnessing a Galehorn standing motionless at the edge of the outermost island for seven hours before the crisis resolved, a sighting that cemented Seraphis's authority with the Aether Council. Ground civilizations have no records of the Galehorn whatsoever, for it has never descended below the cloud layer, and Aeriel scholars debate whether it can even exist at lower altitudes. Some lumomancers theorize the Galehorn is not a creature at all, but the sky's own memory given temporary form.

Role in the World

The Galehorn is revered by the Aeriels as one of Caelum's primal guardians, a spirit-beast bound to the archipelago's cosmic purpose rather than to any individual or council. Its rare appearances are interpreted by the Aether Council as direct omens requiring immediate celestial consultation.
