Caelum is composed of multiple floating islands of varying size, each suspended at high altitude by ancient celestial magic. The islands range from broad, terraced landmasses capable of supporting entire cities to small, solitary outcroppings used as observatories or meditation perches. Narrow sky-bridges and air currents connect the islands, forming natural navigational corridors.

The climate of Caelum is cool and thin-aired, with persistent high-altitude winds and frequent sky-storms rolling between the islands. Mist and cloud cover are common, parting dramatically during clear nights to reveal the star-filled heavens the Aeriels are sworn to watch.

Caelum was granted to THE AERIELS at the dawn of Landorya's history, when the Celestials assigned each race its realm and sacred charge. The Aeriels received dominion over the skies and have maintained Caelum as both homeland and celestial observatory ever since. Their control over high-altitude trade routes has made Caelum a critical node connecting ground-level civilizations, including the Eldorian capital, which the current Archon Seraphis Dawnmantle has personally visited to maintain diplomatic ties.

It is whispered among the Aeriels that Caelum was not always aloft, that in the first age, the islands rested upon the earth like any common land, until the Celestials breathed a single word into the stone and the archipelago tore free of the world's crust, ascending over seven days and seven nights while the seas rushed in to fill the wound below. The Oracle's Spire, oldest of Caelum's structures, is said to mark the precise point where that divine word was first spoken, and those who press their ear to its foundation stones at midnight claim to hear it still, reverberating endlessly in the rock. A darker rumor persists that one island, the so-called Lost Shard, was left behind in the ascent, sinking instead into the deep earth, carrying with it a people who refused to abandon the ground. Scholars at the Cartographer's Guild have charted every recorded island in the archipelago and insist the count is always one fewer than the old celestial census demands.

Each Aeriel dawn begins with the Lark's Call, a ritual chorus sung from the Dawn Towers by trained voice-keepers to greet the sun and confirm that all sky-bridges remain intact after the night's wind shifts, a practice as practical as it is sacred. Scholars, cartographers, and star-watchers form the intellectual backbone of society, spending their long high-altitude nights at observatories and map-guilds, charting celestial movements that the Aeriels believe foretell changes in Landorya's fate far below. Children are assessed for their affinity with wind, light, or starcraft in early youth and apprenticed accordingly, to academies of flight, signal towers, or the crystalline workshops, for in Caelum, every citizen is expected to hold the sky in trust.
