Appearance
The Stormhawk is a massive bird of prey standing four feet tall at the shoulder, its plumage a turbulent mixture of charcoal grey and electric white streaked with veins of crackling pale blue, markings that eerily mimic lightning across a storm front. Its hooked beak is jet-black and reinforced with a keratin density hard enough to pierce light armor, and its eyes burn with an amber intensity that can be seen from a great distance.
Temperament
Ferociously territorial and deeply intelligent, Stormhawks will circle a perceived threat for extended periods before striking with sudden, overwhelming speed. They are capable of recognizing individual Aeriels and have been known to form cautious, long-lasting tolerances with those who respect their nesting grounds.

Lore
The Aeriels tell of the First Stormhawk, a primordial creature said to have been shaped by the Celestials from a living thunderhead to serve as guardian of the sky realm before the Aeriels themselves had fully fledged. Archon Seraphis Dawnmantle is rumored to keep a carved Stormhawk talon as a symbol of office, a reminder that the sky's power is wild at its root. Ground civilizations such as the Eldorians who have attempted to capture Stormhawks for war mounts have met catastrophic failure, the birds refuse all bonds not freely given. Among the Aeriels, presenting a naturally shed Stormhawk feather to a newborn is considered the highest blessing a sky-warden can bestow.
Role in the World
Stormhawks serve as a natural aerial deterrent against enemies who might threaten the floating islands of Caelum, and the Aeriels have long regarded them as sacred kin, wild embodiments of the storm's will. The Ministry of Sky Defense carefully monitors Stormhawk nesting territories, and some elite Aeriel warriors have earned the rare honor of a Stormhawk bond, riding them into battle.
