Overview
Ley-Drake belongs to apex predator in the Landorya bestiary. Its usual habitat is They roam the deep subterranean corridors of the Deep Earth where ley-line confluences are densest, occasionally surfacing near the borders between the Kingdom of the Deep Earth (Earth Realm) and the Magma Throne (Fire Realm).. Appearance
The Ley-Drake is a serpentine dragon-like beast whose scales shimmer with all five elemental hues, earthen amber, magma red, tidal blue, wind-silver, and aether violet, shifting in pattern depending on which ley-line it currently channels. Its hollow crystalline horns hum with resonant frequency, and its eyes glow like molten aether where no iris or pupil can be discerned.
Temperament
Ley-Drakes are solitary and fiercely territorial, patrolling the ley-line corridors of the Deep Earth with cold, calculating awareness. They are not malicious but are utterly uncompromising, any being that disrupts a ley-line node in their territory is met with overwhelming elemental force.
Abilities
- • Ley-line channeling: absorbs and redirects raw elemental energy from underground ley-line flows
- • Elemental breath: exhales a confluence of two or more elements simultaneously
- • Planar phasing: briefly slips between the Material Plane and an adjacent Elemental Plane
- • Resonant roar: shatters crystalline structures and disrupts rival elemental constructs
- • Adaptive scales: passively absorbs elemental damage matching the nearest dominant realm
Lore
Ancient Elemental texts inscribed in the Great Conclave of Elements record that the first Ley-Drake was born when the five founding ley-lines crossed for the very first time, making the creature as old as the Elemental Kingdoms themselves. Surface civilizations of Landorya have long sought Ley-Drake horn-shards for their alchemical ability to store elemental energy, sending treasure hunters into the Deep Earth to their frequent peril. The Elementals hold that slaying a Ley-Drake weakens the ley-line it guarded, and at least three recorded surges of wild elemental magic devastating surface territories have been blamed on such poachings. Elemental scholars at the Great Conclave of Elements debate whether Ley-Drakes are fauna at all, or ancient elemental constructs that simply chose to become alive.
Role in the World
In the Elemental Kingdoms of the Deep Earth, Ley-Drakes serve as natural regulators of ley-line pressure, preventing catastrophic elemental surges that could destabilize the Deep Earth's layered network. The Primarchs of the Great Conclave of Elements regard them as sacred custodians and forbid their hunting.
