The Ley Serpent is a sinuous, wingless creature of immense length, its scales shimmering with a prismatic iridescence that pulses in rhythmic waves along its body like a current of light flowing beneath glass. Its eyes are pure, pupil-less silver, and faint arcane glyphs, eerily reminiscent of Mystaran Psychic Marks, are etched naturally into the scales along its spine.

Ley Serpents are ancient and unhurried, moving with the slow certainty of tectonic forces, unbothered by most living things unless the ley lines they inhabit are disrupted or threatened. They are not malicious but are utterly indifferent to the wellbeing of creatures that blunder into their path.

Legend among THE MYSTARANS holds that the first Ley Serpents predated the founding of Mystaran civilization and that the ley line network itself was partially shaped by their ancient migrations. The Desert Scholars covet Ley Serpent scales as much as the Mystarans do, and there is a long, bitter history of Desert Scholar agents attempting to poach these creatures, an affront the Conclave of the Wise has never forgiven. When a Ley Serpent dies, the ley line it inhabited is said to go dark for a generation, a catastrophic disruption that the Ministry of Planar Affairs monitors with grave seriousness. The Arch-Sage Thalindra Voidweaver is rumored to have communed directly with a Ley Serpent, receiving from it a vision of dimensional fractures yet to come.
