The Mistveil Wraith appears as a translucent, vaguely humanoid silhouette woven from the living mists of Mystara, its form rippling and shifting like smoke caught in a breeze. Where a face might be, two faint luminescent points glow, pale echoes of the radiant eyes that define the Mystarans themselves.

The Mistveil Wraith is patient and inscrutable, neither aggressive nor welcoming, existing in a state of perfect vigilant stillness. It does not attack unless magical boundaries are violated, at which point it acts with swift, dispassionate precision.

Mystaran scholars believe Mistveil Wraiths are not born but coalesced, spontaneous formations of ambient arcane energy given semi-consciousness by Mystara's extraordinary magical saturation. Travelers from other civilizations who report contradictory experiences of Mystara are, according to Mystaran lore, being actively shaped by the perceptual distortions these wraiths project. The Aeriels, who sense unseen currents much as the Mystarans do, are said to be among the only outsiders who perceive Mistveil Wraiths for what they truly are rather than dismissing them as natural fog. The oldest Mystaran texts suggest that elder Mystarans who complete the Thinning may themselves partially merge with these entities.
