Its eyes are described in scripture as two whirlpools of amber light that do not merely see but judge, perceiving the flow of destiny as clearly as the Naga perceive the flow of water. No Naga claims to have seen Serpentis in its true form and survived intact; all depictions are interpretations passed down through Water-Wardens who glimpsed fragments of its form in deep-trance hydro-visions.

Serpentis is understood by Naga theology as neither benevolent nor malevolent but as profoundly principled — a cosmic intelligence that enforces the balance between creation and destruction, healing and poison, with the same impassive authority that a river exercises when it carves through stone. The deity is said to communicate not through words but through the behavior of water: a sudden stillness in a rushing river means judgment; a warm current in cold water means blessing; a venom-taste in sweet spring water means warning.

The founding creation myth of the Naga, preserved in the Codex of Currents and recited at every Festival of First Ripple, describes The First Coil as the moment when Serpentis wrapped its body around every river on the continent at once and exhaled a single breath of divine venom into the water. From that venom, the first Naga formed — humanoid torsos rising from the current, scaled and luminous, with eyes that glowed like shallow water over white sand. The Celestials are said to have shaped the Naga's bodies, but it was Serpentis who gave them their nature: the dual gift of beautiful bioluminescence and lethal venom, the capacity to heal and to harm, which the Naga regard not as contradiction but as completeness.
