The Trench descends to extreme depths at the outer edge of Nereidum, its walls of black basalt dropping sharply from the surrounding ocean floor. Cold, mineral-rich water wells up from its depths, feeding the broader ecosystem of the region. The interior is completely lightless save for the bioluminescence of the creatures, and Nereids, that venture within.

The Abyssal Trench is characterized by near-freezing temperatures, immense water pressure, and near-zero light penetration. Strange resonant currents circulate within its depths, producing the deep-water harmonics that Pearl Court candidates must attune to during their initiation rite.
