Cultural Significance

Every Aeriel child carries the seed of this magic in the body. Feathers shift colour with feeling and power; the Aeriels call that Luminesce. Archon Seraphis Dawnmantle is a renowned lumomancer, and the art is a mark of rank.

Lore

Aeryn Brightmantle noticed during a vivid aurora that her feathers were replaying the colours without her willing it, and that the weather around her was changing. She spent forty years in experiment and wrote On the Grammar of Light, still required study at the Celestial Academy. In the Duskwind Crisis, Seraphis joined lumomancy to aeromancy and burned a clear eye into the storm with light-lances until the larger wind lattice could turn it. Using another's involuntary feather-glow against them is among the gravest taboos.
