Crystalline Resonance is the connective tissue of the Fey Court as a political entity. Without the lattice transmitting Covenant-compulsions and inter-Circle messages, the confederation would fragment into isolated sovereign houses within a generation. Encoded memory-archives in the cavern-temples are library and legal system combined: every Covenant agreement, historical event, and judicial ruling.
Lore
The Fey Court of the Eternal Twilight did not always rely on crystal for binding magic. Early records say the Twilight Covenant once ran entirely through living Veilsinger memory, master to student. The shift came after the Silence. In the Court's middle age an entire generation of senior Veilsingers died at once under circumstances the Court has never publicly explained. Irreplaceable Covenant-knowledge went with them. Afterward the crystal-singers of the deepest caverns proposed encoding everything that remained into the lattice: memory that could not die with any individual. The Deep Archive from that era of grief is now the most sacred and heavily warded site in the hidden realms. The true nature of the Silence remains one of the Court's most jealously guarded secrets.
