Key Aspects

0

Sub-audible frequency work through Gnomish vibration sensitivity

1

Crystal-tuning and harmonic rune engraving

2

Long-distance communication through Whispering Orb networks

3

Structural resonance attacks that fracture stone or metal

4

Diagnostic vibration-listening for machine faults

Practitioners

0

Crystal-Engravers specializing in acoustic rune patterns

1

Guild of Crystal-Engravers artisans who craft Whispering Orbs

2

Gear-Medics using therapeutic low-frequency vibration in prosthetic fitting

3

Lore-Gears who encode archives into resonant crystal memory

Limitations

It needs a physical medium: crystal, metal, or tensioned wire. In a vacuum or behind thick wool-packed walls it barely works. Gnomes call those rooms resonance graves. Overpowered effects can shatter the instruments that make them. Repeated high-intensity use causes Deep-Hum Palsy in the hands and inner ears.

Common Applications

  • Whispering Orb Communion, transmits voice and sound across vast distances
  • Harmonic Fracture, finds a material's natural frequency and shatters it from within
  • Deep-Pulse Diagnosis, reads a machine's state through vibration alone
  • Crystal Chord Seal, locks a multi-toned resonance into an Aether Crystal as a signature or lock
  • Lullaby of the First Cog, ceremonial resonance chant at funerals and inaugurations

Cultural Significance

Resonance Magic is the most personal of the four Gnomish schools. It lives in the body as much as in tools. Many see it as the closest living echo of the Celestial Artificer's first creative act, the heartbeat of the First Cog. Whispering Orb networks form the communication backbone of the Gearhaven city-state federation.

Lore

Gnomes believe Resonance Magic is remembered, not learned. Every Gnome carries a faint impression of the First Cog's original vibration in the inner ear. The Chronicles of the Cog call it the note that taught stone to breathe. Early practitioners were forge-diagnosticians who could hear a hairline crack forming inside a sealed engine. A Crystal-Engraver of the early Age of Magic, working with Elven resonance theory, found that the same hum could move objects, carry words across mountains, and split stone when focused through a carved Aether Crystal. The Guild of Crystal-Engravers has guarded the most advanced formulae ever since, locking them in crystal-memory archives. Access requires the Hum-Test, a silent exam run entirely in sub-audible frequencies.
