Key Aspects
0
Redirecting currents and sculpting rivers
1
Raising waves and amplifying surge
2
Conjuring whirlpools and vortex traps
3
Forming water barriers and shield-walls
4
Pressure-bursts and hydraulic strikes
Practitioners
0
River Sentinels on trade routes and borders
1
Tide Wardens for flood control and siege water-craft
2
Flowmasters who reshape waterways for infrastructure
3
Deep-Current Warriors of the Torrentis lineage
Limitations
A Hydromancer needs freshwater nearby. Farther from flowing water, the working grows weaker and more exhausting. Stagnant, polluted, or salt water resists and can rebound the caster's effort.
Common Applications
- ✦ The Obsidian Surge, a pressurised lance of river-water that can shatter stone
- ✦ Veil of the Weeping Falls, a cascading curtain that deflects projectiles
- ✦ Torrent Binding, encases a target in a spinning sleeve of current
- ✦ Mother's Flood, swells a river beyond its banks to block passage
- ✦ Whirlpool Cradle, holds vessels or flood-gates in a sustained vortex
Cultural Significance
Hydromancy is the martial and civic backbone of the Aqua-Consortium. It built magically reinforced canals. It held the line in the Obsidian River Skirmishes against Drakonia in 1245 AE. Other civilizations respect Naiad claims over inland waterways largely because of it.
Lore
In the Great Flood of 1120 AE, seventeen Tide Wardens joined hands across the Silverstream. In one unified Hydromantic working they redirected a catastrophic surge away from Aqualis and gave themselves to the current. The Naiads call this the Seventeen's Gift and mark it each year at the Spring of First Whisper. Since then the Current Council requires at least one Flowmaster in permanent session during flood seasons, will linked to the great Flow-Wells beneath Aqualis.
