Key Aspects

Tidal manipulation of ocean currents

1

Pressure control as weapon or tool

2

Hydro-Defense rune-barriers

3

Tidal Bridge engineering between citadels

4

Tide-Stave channeling through bone-coral instruments

Practitioners

Tide-Weavers for transport and defense

1

Tide Council licensors governing all practice

2

Current-Seekers as navigator-hydromancers

Pressure-Smiths in thermal vent foundries

Limitations

A practitioner needs physical or mediated contact with water or a Tide-Stave. Without a conduit, hydromantic pressure risks catastrophic implosion of the caster's own body. The Tide Council enforced strict licensing. Unauthorized pressure-wave attacks earned Depth-Banishment to the lightless abyssal plains.

Common Applications

  • The Crushing Embrace, compresses water around a target until movement fails
  • Current-Weaving, shapes underwater corridors for transport or siege
  • Tidal Wall, raises a barrier of compressed seawater in an instant
  • Vent-Surge, channels geothermal pressure through a Tide-Stave
  • Depth-Lock, seals a volume of water in absolute stillness

Cultural Significance

Hydromancy was the civic backbone of Ocearan society, from the Ocearan Riverways to deep-sea citadel defense. Its legal frame and tools, especially the ban on Tidal Disruption, passed to the modern Nereids of Nereidum. Hydromancy is the most enduring institutional legacy of the Oceara.

Lore

The Cerulean Codex records that in the Dark Times, when the Oceara fled to the deepest trenches, surviving Tide-Weavers performed the Sealing of Depths and collapsed trench entrances behind them with pressure-waves. Seventeen Tide-Weavers died. Their bodies were found compressed to stone density and honored as the Pillars of the Deep. Ever after, reckless pressure-magic was desecration of that sacrifice. The modern Nereid ban on Tidal Disruption cites this legend in its founding charter.
