The observatory occupies a broad, flat-topped plateau near the upper reaches of the Celestial Mountains, offering an unobstructed panoramic view of the heavens. Its instruments, lenses, armillary spheres, and star-charts etched in luminescent crystal, are oriented to map the movements of stars, planets, and celestial phenomena.

At its extreme altitude, the observatory endures frigid temperatures year-round and is frequently swept by high-altitude winds. Clear nights, prized by the monks for observation, alternate with periods when thick mist rolls in from the peaks and obscures the sky entirely.

THE CELESTIAL ORDER built the observatory in the age when their founders still received direct guidance from the Celestials, intending it as a permanent record of the divine movements written in the stars. Its findings have been shared selectively with Eldoria and Mystara during joint scholarly conferences and celestial observation events, deepening those alliances. The observatory is considered so sacred that any Drakonian advance toward it has historically been met with the Order's most decisive and unified resistance.

A darker rumor persists, however: that one forbidden chart, sealed behind an altar of black crystal deep within the Observatory's inner sanctum, maps not the fate of Landorya but its end, a convergence of celestial bodies so catastrophic that the Order's founders chose to record it and never speak of it again. Those who claim to have glimpsed the sealed chamber report that the crystal there does not shimmer like the rest, it absorbs light entirely, as though the stars themselves refuse to illuminate what is written upon it.

Life at the Astronomical Observatory revolves around the ceaseless rhythm of the heavens, at dusk, observers take their appointed positions at armillary spheres and crystal lenses, logging the precise movements of stars and planets in ledgers etched onto thin sheets of luminescent crystal that catch the starlight as ink would catch flame. Days are spent in meticulous cross-referencing: comparing new observations against centuries of accumulated charts, debating interpretations in hushed, reverent tones within the vaulted crystal halls where even a whisper carries the weight of doctrine. Ritual is inseparable from scholarship here, each new celestial event is preceded by a formal Invocation of Alignment, in which observers don ceremonial robes threaded with silver to match the constellations they are charged with tracking, and recite the founding covenant of the Order before placing eye to lens. Visitors from Eldoria and Mystara, welcomed during the rare joint observation conferences, are seated in a designated outer gallery ringed with polished crystal mirrors, allowed to witness but never to touch the sacred instruments.
