Geography
The springs emerge from a shallow limestone basin in the central plains, ringed by low outcropping shelves of pale rock. The water collects in a series of linked pools before spilling outward into a slow braided stream that feeds the surrounding windgrass meadow. The Starthread Moss grows thickest where the water meets the stone, and the mineral-rich overflow has deposited a crystalline white crust around the pool rims that gives the springs their name.
Climate
The springs sit in an exposed central plain position and experience the full range of Aurora Plains weather, from fierce midday heat in summer to bitter wind-driven cold in winter. The water temperature remains constant year-round, fed by the deep aquifer, making the pools a reliable warmth source for animals and travelers even in the harshest seasons. Morning mist rises from the warm water into cool air through most of the year.

History
The Nomads have known the Stardust Springs since the earliest oral histories, and the route-songs that encode the primary migration corridors treat the springs as an anchor point from which seasonal bearings are calculated. In the oral record, the springs appear as the site of several significant confederation meetings and at least one formal peace negotiation between tribes disputing a northern migration corridor. The springs have never gone dry in living memory, and the Nomadic understanding is that the Celestials designed the aquifer specifically to sustain the central plains route.
Legend & Lore
The oldest story told about the Stardust Springs holds that the Starthread Moss was not always luminous. In the beginning, it was a common water-plant, dull and unremarkable. During the worst winter of the early confederation, a Flamekeeper ancestor used the last of her fire to warm a dying child through the night, exhausting the ceremonial flame entirely. At dawn, the Celestials replaced what had been spent by teaching the moss to hold light itself, so that no traveler who reached the springs would ever again have to navigate the final approach in darkness. The Mystical Stewards maintain that the moss still responds to the proximity of genuine need, glowing brightest when the most exhausted travelers arrive.
Life & Culture
Caravans halting at the Stardust Springs fall into a familiar rhythm shaped by generations of use. Horses are watered in sequence by herd seniority, a protocol that prevents crowding and preserves the pool edges. Herbalists work the moss beds in the early morning before the caravan wakes, harvesting with small horn-handled knives and drying the cut moss on flat stones through the day. Healers prepare the calming teas and sleep remedies that are among the springs' most valued outputs. Evenings at the springs are quieter than typical camp nights; the blue moss-light discourages the large fires that ordinarily accompany storytelling, and the prevailing mood tends toward rest and restoration rather than performance. Sky Falcons perch along the limestone outcroppings at dusk, hunting the small prey that gather at the water's edge.
